Pure Perfection
Most people install a backyard pool as a means of relaxation and family enjoyment. But what happens when endless maintenance requirements strip away all of the intended fun? Pool owners often become burdened by what seems more like a part-time job than a backyard oasis.
"Our customers want a place to relax and have fun as a family wit
hout constantly worrying about chemical levels," said Robert Crites of Crites Custom Pools. "Mineral ionization systems are a great way to alleviate mundane maintenance routines and get back to the fun of a family pool."
Originally developed by NASA for water purification in space shuttles, mineral ionization technology was adapted to the pool industry as a means of providing totally pure swimming water. These systems use copper, one of the best known algaecides, to naturally eliminate foreign elements without chemicals.
Though the technology has been around for quite some time, the latest advancements have revolutionized the process. Previously, water was ionized by installing copper rods into the pool, which often caused ugly discoloration. New ionization systems have eliminated rods and instead employ a chamber containing metallic electrodes mounted on the pool's filtering system. A control box provides a low volt electrical charge to the electrodes, releasing ions into the water that combine with algae and then are removed through the filter.
"Mineral ionization systems are gaining popularity because they are an earth-friendly and easy way to enjoy a personal pool. They do not cause deterioration commonly seen with salt pools and eliminate the constant need to test and balance chemicals," says Crites.
Chlorinated pools can be easily converted to a mineral ionization system within a two-day process and costs about $2,000 to install. With proper maintenance, the copper chamber will only need to be replaced every two to three years.
Crites Custom Pools is the number one installer of Clear Water RC-50 mineral ionization systems and offers a full range of custom-designed pools and amenities, including waterfalls, underwater stereos, lights and benches for the pool and outdoor kitchens, patios and rock fire pits for the backyard. "With more than 35 years in the business, we pride ourselves on quality and attention to detail," said Crites. "We design to customer specification. If you can dream it, we can build it."
